Recognizing its responsibility in working to repair the fragmentation that has occurred within the Eastern Churches in particular and Christianity overall, we have adopted the following criteria which serve as guidelines for joining the Eastern Apostolic Church Synod:
- demonstration of Orthodox practice and a clear understanding of Orthodox doctrine and tradition;
- demonstration of ethical behavior congruent with Orthodox moral teaching and tradition.
4. Each jurisdiction provides stability in its history and administration.
5. Each jurisdiction professes clear adherence to Orthodox ecclesiology, faith and practice.
6. Each jurisdiction and its clergy abide by the Statutes of this Synod.
- The hierarchy should demonstrate valid and verifiable Apostolic Succession. This means: (a) the claim to Apostolic Succession must be documented and accessible to the public; (b) the bishop(s) have not engaged in the questionable practice of re-ordination from various churches or apostolic lines.
- Each jurisdiction can demonstrate that it is engaged in real and viable ministries.
- The clergy of each jurisdiction can demonstrate competence and professionalism that is consistent with the rank and office of pastoral leadership, such as:
- demonstration of Orthodox practice and a clear understanding of Orthodox doctrine and tradition;
- demonstration of ethical behavior congruent with Orthodox moral teaching and tradition.
