A Synod Within The Canonical Tradition Of Eastern Orthodoxy
Recognizing the responsibility to work for the repair of the fragmentation that has occurred within Eastern Orthodoxy and Christianity at large, the members of the Eastern Apostolic Church (EAC) Synod subscribe to the following tenets:
There are two churches, one that is man-made with man-made laws. It is corrupt, false and misleading. It denies the will of the living God who reveals Himself to the heart of man. It makes slaves and bond-servants of those who choose to obey it.
There is another Church, the only one for me, for it is the Church of Jesus Christ, imbued with His Spirit, attentive to the word and will of God. That is the Church I recognize. (Abp. Aftimios in a letter to the editor of the 'Syrian World" on June 12, 1933) |
It is important to remember that the church is a spiritual hospital, not a court of law. The priest is called to be a spiritual healer, not a prosecuting attorney.
We are not here to attack anyone, condemn anyone, hate anyone or persecute anyone, but to strive to live a life in Christ through His Holy Church. The Church does not send anyone to heaven or to hell, but rather prepares those who are being healed for their ultimate encounter with the love and glory of God. At that time, their consciences will judge them. The true church judges no one, but offers spiritual healing to all. (Archbishop Lazar Puhalo, Canada) |
